The history and production of Flip Top Table
Flip Top is an innovative design created for the care industry. Flip Top’s creators are a South Wales based couple who operate a successful care home for the elderly. During their time in the care home they have faced several challenges, one being the inadequate over chair tables on the market.
The current L shaped over chair tables, offer little beneficial use. The tables are bulky, made of porous laminate wood and are always a hindrance in care homes that have little space for storage.
After an unfortunate accident in their care home due to the poor quality of these tables, Phillip Pengelly (designer of Flip Top) made it his mission to create a safer, better product. A year later, Flip Top was created.
Flip Top is a table that attaches to a care home arm chair, it can be pulled in front of the chair for use and then stowed away neatly to the side of the chair, creating a safe clean environment. Flip Top is made in bright colours to assist dementia clients to cognitively recognise their plated meal when it is on their table, due to the block contrast of colour. Flip Top’s tray is made from plastic so that it is easy to wipe down and clean.
This revolutionary product will benefit residents of the care industry by making life a little easier and safer.
